About Erynn

altErynn is a 27 year old primarily self-taught costumer from SE Minnesota. She graduated from Winona State University in May 2007 with a degree in Theatre and Dance.

Erynn was first bitten by the costume bug in 1997, which also marked the beginning of her life as a knitter. Her biggest descent into craft and hobby-dom came in 2006, when she learned the basics of hand ventilating wigs during a three day "internship" at the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis and also taught herself chain maille. In 2007 she decided that that wasn't enough and taught herself basic tablet weaving as well. Rounding out her current list of hobbies is stage makeup, photography and singing loudly in the car. The list of future hobbies she would like to learn is never ending.

At Winona, Erynn was given the opportunity to try her hand at many different aspects of theatre. In 2006 and 2007 she designed costumes for the children's show, designing the makeup for the 2007 children's show as well. In 2006 her costumes for Many Moons were voted Best Design by the Wenonah Players and in 2008 she was awarded a Certificate of Merit at ACTF for her James and the Giant Peach costumes. Select costumes from both shows were featured in the 2007 and 2008 ACTF Region 5 costume parades.

During her time at WSU, Erynn was also a sound board operator, assistant stage manager, makeup supervisor, light board operator, actor, dancer and costume shop employee. She also designed costumes for Theatre du Mississippi's production of The Arkansas Bear.

Weird and quirky costumes are her favorite to make, preferring to lean towards historical, futuristic or just plan odd designs and away from more mundane items you may find in a store. This sometimes leads to using items in odd ways, such as a cardboard box for a hat, or mixing 13th and 15th century clothing designs into one piece.

Since graduation, Erynn hasn't been able to continue her work in theatre, though she spends as much time as possible making costumes for herself and others and knitting anything she can get her hands on, all the while looking for a way to get theatre back into her life.
